about

Jaymie Silk's music always honors the rich heritage of the black pioneers of club, techno, and house music, and this project is no exception. He has fused various influences to create a sound that promotes tolerance and unity, perfect for the dancefloor. This EP features elements of Detroit techno, vibrant Middle Eastern and Brazilian rhythms, and gritty hip hop vibes reminiscent of Pete Rock and Kanye West, all enveloped in distortion and lo-fi textures.

“’GHETTO CAPITALISM' is a four-track EP, an exploration that delves into the complexities of our contemporary society. Drawing inspiration from the powerful works of James Baldwin, this EP is structured like a narrative, examining how globalization and the digital era have confined us into consumption-driven niches. The distinction between mainstream and underground music has faded, leaving only follower counts as a differentiator. We find ourselves ensnared in what I term 'Ghetto Capitalism’.

Conceived as a testament to what could be seen as a dystopian vision of the role of the children of the diaspora in electronic music, but in fact is a reality, "Ghetto Capitalism" serves as my post-2020 reflection on a world where technological progress offers new means of self-expression but also traps us in algorithmic silos. This EP invites listeners to break free from these confines, to dance, to connect, and to embrace diversity.

In an era where dancefloors are becoming empty, 'Ghetto Capitalism' emerges as an act of defiance, whether played through club speakers or personal headphones, for those who cherish music and find themselves navigating a pixelated reality alone."
